After a 10-hours journey, it was a great relief to meet Francesco in Piazza Manfredi. The flat was awesome! Oria is really a beauty! Francesco and his friends were really nice and helpful and their mozzarella is fantastic! The sea at Campomarino is beautiful, but don’t miss a tour from Otranto to Leuca, the view of the sea there is astonishing!

Most important of all: Italia Campione del Mondo!

Grazie Ragazzi!!!

We very much enjoyed our stay in Oria even though the weather we left behind in England was better than here. Francesco was very helpful. When we arrived late at night we could not get our mobile to work as we did not realise we had to put n. 00 in front of the number. One of the bar staff in a local cafè rang Francesco to tell him where we were and he came and rescued us. The apartment is charming, clean and roomy with amenities and very good value for money. Having a car we visited many places but the road signs are very poor, when we come back we will be armed with SAT. NAV. If you need to know where to go Francesco will write an itinery. A really enjoyable stay, love to come back and go to the places we have missed.

May 28th – June 3rd 2006 ((Unit S. Maria al Tempio)

Once upon a time, on a gorgeous sunning day, Fulvio & Dani arrived in beautiful Oria. They fell in love with the hundreds ??alleways??, the dome of the church (something you can spot from far, far away), the charming sights all around and most of all with all locals they had the honour to meet…

Unforgettable nights in the Piazza chatting with Franco & friends (you know who you are) will always be in our minds.

For those who have just arrived in Oria: close your eyes for a few seconds and let Oria whisper its many voices to your ears. You will be amazed by this place.

By the way, we left a beer in the fridge for you, just a welcome thing. It would be nice to find one when we come back!

Have very much enjoyed our stay. Oria has been a good base to explore the surrounding towns and countryside. Particularly impressed by the wild flowers which seem to grow everywhere and generally by how green & light? it is here.

Thanks Francesco for your initial words of advice and hope you enjoyed Mexico.

Very pleasant, relaxing stay in lovely Oria. Francesco very helpful. Travel by train was easy, so we visited many great places.

The bottom line is: we would love to come back. The earlier glowing reviews cannot be contradicted.

What a little gem of a town! Living in the heart of Oria gives a taste of what real Italian life is all about, living amongst the locals instead of with other tourists. The apartment is beautiful and so sympathetically restored. We have not been very lucky with weather, but without a little rain, how could all those fantastic vegetables and salads exist?

18th – 25th Feb. 2006 (Unit S. Maria al Tempio)

First + foremost Francesco has been the perfect host friendly, attentive, keen to meet, greet and ensure our needs were met. Also taking us to a very entertaining medieval musical concert. During the week we have driven 800 + Kms! Maybe lost for 100kms+

We have visited:

Lecce: interesting architecture

Martina Franca: lovely drive + lunch.

Alberobello: unique.

Ostuni: also fascinating

Matera: Atmospheric, worth the drive.

Grottaglie: Also very interesting

Gallipoli: great lunch (fish) and surprisingly attractive.

Whilst we have thoroughly enjoyed all our day trips we have been very glad to return to Oria in the evening, appreciating its unspoilt and also unique town and friendly people. The flat also is fantastic and of higher standard than we expected! The bed is better than ours, have slept like a log! A final thanks and apologies to anyone from the Shetlands as we accidently burnt a hole in the map with a candle (in the apartment there is a map of Great Britain on which guests are invited to indicate where they are from – note of Francesco). Sadly going home to “dry out” after too much fantastic local wine + diet.

Gill, Doug and Rachelle Simons. SWANSEA U.K.

PS Recommend Trattoria Cavilieri in Oria, great last meal, 60 euro for 3 courses with wine and coffee for 3 people

PPS Buy some cheese from Pipino cheese shop!!

Oria - what a fantastic medieval discovery in Puglia, Southern Italy. Full of character, easily accessible and lovely friendly people. A real gem full of charm. Small meandering streets and numerous quaint bars and restaurants. Lots of history dating back to 2000BC. Museum well worth a visit, zoo and healing centre nearby along with other local interests. Ideally positioned for sightseeing and the Adriatic and Ionian Coastline. Buses and Trains offer very good public transport travel throughout Puglia. Try Borgodioria for superb, highly recommended comfortable accommodation. www.borgodioria.it

Ciao ORIA. We’ll be back soon! Arrived looking forward to exploring My husband’s roots in Southern Italy and had a superb holiday in a great town and lovely apartment. We fell in love with Oria and thank Franco immensely for his help and hospitality. Also a big thank you to Andrea for taking us out and showing us the surrounding countryside churches and hidder gems like St. Cosimo and zoo just 5 mins drive away. Restaurants, as expected, excellent! We can recomand the Medieval style Restaurant “Alla Corte di Hyria” in the back streets of Oria. Initially we didn’t realise it was a restaurant – opened 2 months ago and a real experience, especially the local antipasto. For pizza’s we found “il Saraceno” about 10 mins walk on Via Latiano, to be excellent and cheap.

All of the Puglia’s places of interest worth a visit, however Alberobello and Ostuni must get quite busy in Summer. Gallipoli we loved, along with Lecce well worth just driving and exploring.

All in our great holiday leaving us with some lovely memories and some new found friends. Great chance to practice and (?..) on the Italian!

Thankyou
